Trailer reaction: Us

Well, behold the Coagula, because Get Out creator Jordan Peele is back with a vengeance.

Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and their two kids, trying to enjoy a family vacation, instead get terrorized by their own twisted, unfriendly doppelgängers.  To call this film a “home invasion thriller” is to undersell it.  There is stuff going on in this trailer that . . . frankly, I am not sure what is going on, but what I see is disturbing and wholly unique, and in horror that is a rare and cherished thing (HeroMonsters have high standards on this subject, so that is high praise).

The ominous imagery in this trailer alone – the red jump suits, the scissors, the caged rabbits – along with the eerie usage of “I Got Five On It” and “Why You Treat Me So Bad”, have already got me hyped. If the movie is half as messed up as this mesmerizing trailer promises, then Peele has another horror masterpiece on his hands.

Us slashes its way into theaters on March 15.
